Planet creation in Sci-Fi

I have been reading through some setting books for the Last Parsect and really like them. Does anyone know of a good generator for sci-fi planets? (Maybe an on-line one?)
What has been your favorite planet in a sci-fi setting? What made it special?

I really like the Stars Without Number planet/system/sector creation. It’s evocative of pulp/Star Wars possibilities. I can’t say anymore, for I haven’t had the opportunity to use it in action. There used to be a free version of Stars on DriveThru. [Checking.] Yep. Still is. https://www.drivethrurpg.com/m/product/86467

For some reason, Nyriaan really spoke to me when I first read about it in Galaxy of Intrigue. There was something cool about the storm layer in the upper atmosphere, where ships can’t really fly, and where Force powers don’t work. I liked the gondola system that ran from the orbital space stations to the surface were very flavorful.

I just really liked the idea that the PCs had a good reason to not have their ship when they were traversing the terrain on the surface, and I liked the tension of explaining the travel to and from the space station on the really long lines of the gondolas. Having a fight in transit is almost a must.

There are all kinds of crashed ships from different eras on the surface because of the upper atmosphere storms. Ironically, I never managed to use it when I was running d20 Saga Star Wars, but I did use the planet in my Edge of the Empire campaign, and it was a lot of fun.

Donjon has automatic versions of old Traveller and d6 Star Wars planet and system generators on it, and I used the d6 Star Wars generator several times for Star Wars games.

The best RPG book I have ever seen on this is the Worldbuilders Handbook for Megatraveller.

This will give you a random system for doing all of it using paper, pencil, and some dice. However, if you don’t want to do that, many of the links above are all inspired by this one book, so use them.

@Silverbolt as a side thought, Campaign Cartographer has a Plant Creation feature. I should look into that :stuck_out_tongue:
